Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Advanced Wound Care and Treatment for Decompression Sickness

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment where a patient breathes 100% pure oxygen inside a pressurized chamber. This high-pressure environment allows the lungs to gather significantly more oxygen, which is then dissolved into the bloodstream and delivered to tissues throughout the body. HBOT is the primary and most effective treatment for decompression sickness (DCI), a critical risk for divers. It is also a powerful adjunctive therapy for treating a variety of other conditions, including non-healing wounds, carbon monoxide poisoning, and certain infections.

Benefits for Your Organisation

  • Life-Saving DCI Treatment: HBOT is the definitive treatment for decompression sickness and arterial gas embolism.

  • Accelerated Healing: Enhances the healing of chronic wounds, such as diabetic foot ulcers, by promoting the growth of new blood vessels.

  • Fights Infection: Boosts the effects of white blood cells, helping to fight certain types of severe infections.

  • Reduces Swelling: Helps to reduce swelling and inflammation associated with injuries or medical conditions.

Who This Service Is For

  • HBOT is a critical treatment for:

    • Divers suffering from Decompression Sickness (DCI) or Arterial Gas Embolism (AGE).

    • Patients with non-healing wounds, particularly diabetic ulcers.

    • Individuals with Carbon Monoxide poisoning.

    • Patients with other referred conditions where increased oxygenation can aid healing.

The Process: What to Expect

  • Referral & Assessment: Treatment begins with a referral from a doctor or an emergency assessment for conditions like DCI. Our hyperbaric specialist will determine if HBOT is the right treatment for you.

  • Treatment Plan: A personalized treatment plan is created, outlining the number and duration of sessions required.

  • The Session ("Dive"): You will relax inside the hyperbaric chamber while the pressure is gradually increased. You can rest, listen to music, or watch movies during the session, which typically lasts from 90 to 120 minutes.

  • Supervised Care: You are monitored by our trained hyperbaric staff at all times throughout the treatment.
